[Character Name] Death the Kid
[Canon] Soul Eater
[Point Taken from Canon] Post Chapter 83
[Entered Somarium] February 4, 2011
[Age]15 16 17 18
[Birthday] HEADCANONING: August 26.
[Gender] Male
[Sexual Orientation]Symmetry— Can't...really say. But more likely het.
[Eye Color] Dual colored rings: light yellow gold ring with dark yellow ring on the inside.
[Hair Color] Black, with three white stripes on the left side.
[Height] ...Uhm. IDK IT'S BEEN LIKE 2 AND A HALF YEARS AND HE'S GROWN. So...taller than he is in canon?? I wouldn't say six feet, but he's getting closer to it.
[Other] Just the white stripes. And that he's always symmetrical.
[Clothing] WELL. Technically he's...changed outfits at this point. Usually he's like this, which is what he's mostly recognized for. But then they all changed uniforms to the SPARTOI uniform \o_O/ I haven't really decided, so I'll probably stick with his original default since that's what people would imagine him in. That and most of his icons have him in his usual thing /cough. And as a third outfit change but not really, he can also look like his dearvery old Dad via wearing the black cloak and white mask (but not the height). I honestly do believe that Kid can just pull his clothes out of thin air. He started changing after leaving a party and they hadn't even passed his room. SHINIGAMI MAGIC. But he also has other sets of casual clothing and will have likely acquired a new style during his stay. It's still formalish (more collared shirts rather than tees) but not full on suit.

[Personality]
Symmetry. Probably the most defining characteristic about Kid is his obsession over symmetry. It is also perhaps one of his greatest weaknesses on two fronts. If Kid is facing an opponent who is perfectly symmetrical, no matter how strong or evil it is, he cannot bring himself to destroy it. To Kid, symmetry is the representation of a perfect balance, and anything perfectly symmetrical is a thing of true beauty. Perfect symmetry can also distract him from any tasks at hand—he will have to stop and admire anything that's symmetrical.
On the other hand, if something is not symmetrical, he will completely fall apart and obsess over it. He just can't stand it. Period. He will become disgusted and/or freak out, depending on the situation. Because of his condition, if he does find something that is asymmetrical, he will need to fix it somehow. This will consume him to the point that a lot of times he will completely forget whatever he was doing—even if it's an important mission—and fix it. If he finds the asymmetry offensive or disgusting, he tends to lose his temper and blasts it away, as there is no such need for such an abomination. So it's basically fix it or get rid of it.
However, if he cannot do either of those two—such as with his hair—he will become depressed and call himself trash. Because he holds symmetry so high, the fact that he himself is asymmetrical distresses him to the point that it renders him useless. It usually takes a lot of comfort and support from Liz and Patty for him to snap out of it.
Kid is aware that most of the world is asymmetrical, and in truth, his bouts of symmetry tend to be random. There are times when he'll be just fine, and then there are times when he happens to notice something about an object's symmetry. But once Kid is fixated on the symmetry, it is very hard to get him back to focus. If the situation is grave and calls for his utmost attention, however, Kid can manage to control himself to focus. These are usually more for life or death situations, though he will still notice the asymmetry.
Perfectly Balanced. In relation to symmetry, but slightly different, Kid is also a perfectionist. As the son of Shinigami, and knowing of the great responsibilities that would befall upon him as a successor, Kid holds balance and order as one of the most important things. In fact, his ideal world would be one where everything is in a perfect balance, and he hopes to one day realize this. He views the current world as flawed and unbalanced, in part because of all the evil that must be kept in check. Again tying with his obsession with symmetry, Kid will do everything as perfectly as possible, even if it means taking more time and getting distracted. His need to be balanced is also reflected upon himself. It is the reason why he wields both Liz and Patty as his weapons, instead of using just one weapon.
Efficient. Because of his need to be balanced, Kid is also very efficient in what he does. He doesn't take any unnecessary steps and will execute any task as perfect as possible. Of course, this doesn't always happen because of his own flaws, but for the most part he at least desires efficiency and can be when his symmetry obsession doesn't get in the way.
Dignified. Again, because he is the son of Shinigami, Kid holds himself out as expected of someone born in such an important status. Liz and Patty also recognize Kid's soul as dignified (and also spoiled). While Kid can and sometimes uses his position as a shinigami to his advantage, it's not out of abuse and usually more for practical matters. Such as using his rank to gain access to higher levels of the library. He is polite, neat, proper, and relatively reserved. Under normal circumstances (that is anything that doesn't involve symmetry), Kid remains calm and level-headed. He will analyze the situation and work from there. He also appears much more mature for his age, ready to reprimand anyone or keep them in check if necessary. He holds a lot of responsibility both as his position as a shinigami and a Meister, and he takes it all very seriously. He does not treat life lightly, as it is his duty to protect the innocent souls and maintain that balance. He also normally doesn't make light of his missions or whatever task he is assigned to. In this way, he also makes for a capable leader, though he will also work with others.
Even though Kid is basically a god, he doesn't look down on anyone (unless they're ridiculously stupid and asymmetrical). In fact, he treats everyone, especially his friends, as equal. Being a shinigami or a human doesn't matter much to him; it's the person's individuality that matters. He will recognize those who have valuable abilities, even if that someone would otherwise drive him up the wall because of his outrageous personality (re: Black☆Star). This is also shown by his admiration for the Thompson sisters. While it's true that he chooses them because they become twin pistols and keep his symmetry, he also admires them because they have a more positive personality in comparison to his negative one.
Just a boy. Despite everything, in the end Kid is also, well, a kid. He's still a teenager and knows how to have fun with his friends. Though he's not like Soul or Black☆Star who just let loose and can go wild, Kid will join in on casual fun engagements and knows how to just chill and hang out. Despite being usually serious and reserved, there are moments when he can relax and enjoy the small things in life. Of course he is at his happiest when something is perfectly symmetrical, and his usual reserved demeanor is thrown out the window. He also treasures his friends very much, and will do whatever it takes to protect them.
Violent temper. This is both rare and common, depending on how you look at it. In general, Kid is a level-headed young man. But there are times when that all cracks. This usually only happens when he sees something so horrendously asymmetrical, but if there is something he is absolutely against, he will also grow angry. Once Kid gets mad, he gets mad. So, it's rare for Kid to really get mad, but it's common in the sense that it will almost always happen if he sees something completely "wrong".
Addendum. I have a bit about the whole OCPD vs. OCD at the bottom here. And tl;dr—my interpretation is that he suffers from neither but just has traits that are closely related to them. However, I would also say that if he did have one, it would be OCPD with just some OCD tendencies.
[Specialties/Abilities]
Kid has quite a few abilities, with or without Liz and Patty as his weapons. The wiki link (specifically here) does a good job at explaining all his specific abilities, so I'll just touch on the more general ones and just repeat the more important ones. Although, most of these are kind of moot since he won't be able to perform them in Somarium due to one reason or another.
As a shinigami, Kid's own body is different from a normal human's body. He can handle extreme weather conditions as well as poisons and chemicals. This is much to his dismay since he's tried dying those three white stripes in his hair to no avail. Kid also has inherent abilities that come with being a shinigami, but what those are exactly are unknown. Kid also has a higher tolerance and endurance for any physical abuse, and has higher capabilities than normal humans. Such as reconnecting his severed arm and reattaching it to his body.
Those three white lines on the left side of his hair aren't just for show. They are called the Lines of Sanzu, and basically act as a kind of power limiter. They also symbolize that Kid is still a child shinigami. Whenever the lines connect, Kid is able to use more powerful sets of attacks. So far he's only managed to connect two of them, though it's unknown at the moment what happens when he connects all three. It hasn't been directly stated, but has been hinted that the connection of the lines are also connected to Shinigami in some way. It is also hinted that the abilities used when the lines are connected are also drawn from Shinigami.
In terms of his skill, other than being quite athletic and strong, Kid is also known for his proficiency as a Meister. Liz and Patty Thompson are his partners as Weapons, and they both change into identical twin guns that Kid wields simultaneously. Even though he fires them upside down and with his pinkies, he is highly skilled and is an excellent shot. It should be noted that when he uses Liz and Patty, he doesn't fire normal bullets but his soul wavelength instead. He can also execute a Soul Resonance with both weapons without any difficulty and can perform higher levels of attacks.
Without his weapons, Kid is also a highly capable hand-to-hand fighter. Even though he would be a long range fighter, Kid can also fight in a short range scenario. He will even use his weapons to attack.
One other ability he has is his Soul Perception. Although Maka's ability is superior to his, Kid's ability is also superior to most others. With this ability, he can sense and see the souls of others and judge the person's personality and characteristics.
And finally, there's his skateboard, Beelzebub. He can "summon" (it's more like materializing) the skateboard through his hand and use it to fly long or short distances. He's also a rather good skateboarder, able to perform tricks even with a person on his shoulders.
It should be noted that even though Kid is pretty strong, he's still a growing boy. He is not the strongest, and he recognizes and knows that there are others who are stronger than him, including his classmates. He can be taken down like anyone else, and in Somarium his abilities are basically reduced by half. Since Liz and Patty aren't around, Kid won't have access to his weapons, and therefore all his super awesome abilities are pretty much shot. (no pun intended.) Also, because of the uncertain nature of the Lines of Sanzu, even if Kid connected the lines, he may not be able to do much due to the nature of Somarium. Though I highly doubt there would be a need for him to have to even tap into such power. He's pretty capable as is.
One another source of power he has is that from Madness. Granted to him by the giant black mass called Power while in the Book of Eibon, this basically allows him to tap into the power that Madness can give to those from his canon and increase his abilities. When partnered with his weapons, it also strengthens them, too, even changing their gun forms. However, he only uses it under extreme circumstances and it's highly unlikely he'll use it here in Somarium unless he was involved in some kind of major battle where his own abilities would not be enough. Also to note is that while he has a pretty good control over it, there is the off chance of him losing it and be swept into the Madness. Again, this is highly unlikely to happen in Somarium, but under certain conditions/influence, it could happen.
[Affection]
Uh...rotflmao I'll just laugh, okay. Kid might kind of frown, depending on who it is and how it's done. But go for it.
[Fighting]
All up for a good fight 8D Even without Liz or Patty, Kid can do some real heavy damage, so just be prepared. ...Just no killing ;;

He'll have access to Beelzebub.
Did I mention that Kid loves symmetry and balance?
Mention the white stripes and die—
[Translation Notes]
I figure I should tack on a note here— Even though I used the original Japanese terms in his application, in actual play I use the English translation. So shinigami = death god; Shinigami-sama = Lord Death; Shibusen = DWMA/The Academy. However, I still use "meister" rather than "technician" and "Kishin" is still the same. Because...really. "Afreet" for "Kishin"? Really? 8|a
Two reasons for this: 1) it was what my castmate was using; 2) Soul Eater is technically set in the United States (Death City, Nevada), so English would be the default language. It would only make sense for Kid, who grew up as an American pretty much, to use English rather than Japanese.
[Interpretation Note: OCPD vs. OCD]
Some people think that Kid may have OCD or OCPD, and it's quite possible that he has a bit of that. I never really looked into it prior to really playing him and the tiny bit that I did do way back when, he rang more OCPD with just a few OCD tendencies. However, though he has a lot of those traits, I don't think he actually has it. There are two main reasons for this, all from manga source.
I'll throw in another subreason: in the early chapters, Ohkubo really played up Kid's symmetry obsession. This actually ended up more as a comedic gag effect rather than what he does all the time. As the story went on and things turned more serious, although Kid had his moments, they were much less subdued, particularly in the recent chapters. The last time the comedic gag was used was before he was taken in the book. After that, he had a minor "No wait, I need more time to make this right!" moment in chapter 99. That's almost 50 chapters and a long time canonwise and still not as dramatic as during his first appearance in chapter 3. One could either attribute it to the "comedic gag" or one could also say by now Kid has developed and is starting to come to terms about certain aspects about his views and the world around him. Now that isn't to say he would never have a breakdown ever. But it would be less at the drop of a hat as earlier portrayed.
Now this is just my interpretation and explains a bit as to how I play him. I just completely did not think about OCPD or OCD behaviors until someone asked me in another game, and after reviewing both canon material and my own playing, it was interesting how they did match up. This by no means this is the "correct" interpretation. But I would definitely argue he is not purely OCD. The most I would grant is that he has OCD-like tendencies and comes close to it. But OCPD is the more logical choice here if I had to choose between the two.

- Order. He is the embodiment of Order, thus he will of course have the mindset that everything should be in some order or place. Though I don't think he suffers from it, this does ring more with the OCPD. Where I contest the OCD is that he doesn't arrange things symmetrically because he fears disorder—it's just a reaction for always wanting order and that disorder actually offends he senses rather than fear it. OCD requires anxiety or fear, and that's why they do the compulsions. He doesn't actually do that. If he sees something out of place, he'll fix it because he wants order. He acknowledges that some chaos must exist otherwise there would be no balance. It's a very fine line and they both illicit negative reactions, but the key point is that Kid does not make things orderly to make him feel better. He does it because that's how he wants it to be and it has a positive side effect. And that is how someone with OCPD behaves: they are rigid in their perfectionist/order mindset and will do what needs to be done to keep that order. That includes getting upset over non-orderly things in some fashion. But regardless, he is Order. It's not some mindset that he has—the standard is completely different. Since he is Order, he will of course think this way.
- Development. Kid recognizes that he needs to change himself and that a strict world of "order" isn't right. This goes into "How does he define order?" and that's something he's still grappling with. But it seems that his original goal of "creating a beautiful and symmetric world" is starting to be tempered a bit. Not completely, however. He still wants a "perfectly balanced world" but not necessarily a rigid one. This is exemplified by how he began to understand that if he wanted to be a proper shinigami, he was going to have get over his obsession over symmetry. He does this by wearing an armband on only one arm rather than two. (Although this happens much later than the canon point I apped him from, the line of development still rings true)
